Is this training right for me?

This training package is for the person or small team that writes your business communications. When we say ‘business communications’, we mean anything from pitch decks to web copy, social posts to brochures, blog pieces to presentations.

You might not have the word ‘writer’ in your job title. But if any one of the following sounds like you, this course can help:

  • I’m the only person writing comms for a small business, but I’ve had no training
  • I’m part of a stretched team – I’m doing bits of writing, but it’s not one person’s role
  • I’m often asked to ‘quickly write something up’ or ‘check the copy before it goes live’

What happens on the day?

If you’re doing the full-day training at our studio in Balfron, the session is split into two – sandwiched between some delicious brain-food (usually by Turnip the Beet, one of our local favourites).

1. Copywriting basics (10am – 12.30pm)
Why good copy is important, and what it looks like.

Covering:

  • What makes copy engaging – and effective
  • Common copy pitfalls (and how to dodge them)
  • Standard writing rules for all comms
  • How to critique and edit your own writing without getting into a Thesaurus-based mess

Takeaway:

  • Knowledge of how to write better copy
  • Cheatsheet sent out after the session

 

2. Finding and using your tone of voice (1.30pm – 4.30pm)
Helping you create and effectively use your organisation’s tone of voice. (If you already have one, we’ll refine it and help you use it consistently.)

Covering:

  • What tone of voice is (and isn’t)
  • Examples of different types of ToV
  • How to sound authentic to you
  • Live exercises to rewrite some of your brand comms in your new tone
  • When and where to dial up and down

Takeaway:

  • A clear and confident tone of voice for your brand
  • A mini tone of voice guide with examples and rules
  • A clear understanding of how to use your new tone of voice
